Sharon and Dennis Platt have been raising Golden Retrievers in Connecticut since 1983. Sharon grew up with a family that raised and showed golden retrievers during her childhood and always had a love for the breed.

Today, she and her husband , Dennis, own several Golden Retrievers of their own and raise several litters each year for discriminating dog owners. They are also owners of Championship line female and male Golden Retrievers. If you are in the process of adding a Golden Retriever to your family,
please send us an inquiry and we would be happy to get right back to you!

Why Private Home Based breeders are superior to large scale puppy breeders and "puppy mills"

There are several reasons why golden retriever puppies raised in a home environment are generally considered to be better than those raised in a puppy mill. Here are a few:
  1. Health: Puppy mills often prioritize profit over the health and well-being of the puppies, which can result in unhealthy and genetically compromised animals. Puppies raised in a home environment are more likely to receive proper medical care and socialization.
  2. Socialization: Puppy mills typically do not provide the same level of socialization and human interaction as home environments. This can lead to behavioral problems and difficulty adjusting to a new home.
  3. Living conditions: Puppy mills are often overcrowded and unsanitary, leading to stress and suffering for the animals. Home environments, on the other hand, offer more space, comfort, and stimulation.
  4. Genetics: Responsible breeders who raise puppies in a home environment are more likely to carefully select their breeding dogs based on health and temperament, leading to healthier and better-adjusted puppies.
In short, puppies raised in a home environment are generally healthier, better socialized, and better adjusted to living in a home environment than those raised in a puppy mill.
